I really like Juande Ramos, the replacement manager for Martin Jol and this game impressed me even more.
The Spurs put up such a gritty and brave display that even the fast Evra was outpaced and tripped on his own caused by the even quicker Aaron Lennon who terrorised the French left-back almost the entire night till before his substitution.
It was not the most convincing victory for last season Cup's finalists but they had that extra edge of quality that Spurs are gunning for.
Tottenham took a deserved 1-0 lead through Robbie Keane before half-time but they then undid their good work when Michael Dawson decided to blatantly played handball in the 70th minute, being sent off and gave a penalty from which Ronaldo converted.
It was a disappointing night for Ronaldo, which was also evident in the league game against Reading but he somehow kept on scoring and it was no real surprise when he put the result beyond doubt in the last minute of normal time with a shot that deflected wickedly off a defender before squeezing under the hapless flailing arms of Radek Cerny, Spurs goalkeeper.
One sight of the night was Paul Scholes after a nightmare 3 months out of the game from injury. His return on 65th minute was welcomed to a rapturous Old Trafford crowd and though Man Utd did not miss him much but his goals from midfield will be a welcome load off Ronaldo's back who seemed to be putting extra pressure on himself ever since he came 2nd best in the World behind Kaka recently.
Spurs provided a creditable and stern performance and Ramos' arrival does seem to provide stability and calmness at the club. They will only improve even more, though there was not much fault that Ramos' predecessor, Martin Jol, had caused the club in the first place.
Man Utd's next FA Cup game is an explosive encounter against Arsenal, and Rahman and I will keep a keen lookout for this.
